Webinar Content
The world watches while the U.S. economy, particularly the auto sector, reels. Seventy percent of the Gross Domestic Product of The People's Republic of China depends upon exports, the lion's share of which goes to North America. Once naive and uneducated on fundamental issues relating to finance and credit, Chinese credit and financial professionals are becoming savvier and better informed literally by the day. Implications for American companies in the automotive industry are immense, regardless of whether they are OEMs, Tier 1s or the aftermarket. With an estimated 35% of all U.S. automotive companies at or near balance sheet insolvency, American purchasing and logistical managers are more likely than ever to face increasing scrutiny of their employer's credit quality when sourcing overseas.

One can expect Chinese suppliers to begin asking as never before very tough questions of their American customers, publicly-traded and privately held. Queries regarding management competence, available liquidity and how US customers finance themselves will become commonplace among shrewd Chinese partners. How U.S. customers react to and address these concerns will define how the American automobile industry will survive and evolve in the 21st century as the world becomes smaller. American executives need to grasp the gravity of this problem and begin developing tools and strategies to address these issues with potential or existing partners in mainland China as well as the world over.
